Why I Started This Blog (and Why It’s Called Whispers)
I am a software engineer born in the year of our LLM overload—27 BL (Before LLMs). For those who may not know, LLM stands for Large Language Models, which is the technology powering the current AI boom; from ChatGPT to Claude and the rest of them.
By this point, you may be wondering what LLMs have to do with writing blogs and weird blog naming conventions, or whether you’ve stumbled upon the ramblings of a slightly unhinged engineer; but the AI boom is exactly what ultimately made me start my long-planned blog.
You see, I am what people call a dreamer. Leave me undistracted for more than two minutes and my mind wanders in infinite directions; ideas for new businesses to start, places I want to go, things I want to try, people I’d like to meet, and more. Most of those remain simply as ideas, never put into action.
In one of my daydreaming siestas at the start of this year, I came to a realization. Because of AI, the world is now entering a new phase. That of builders. Builders now have an unsized advantage. To be fair, it has always been so. Builders have always ruled the world; it was just harder for them to do so. To build a software company, you needed a team of software developers, designers, and more. To build a newsletter or writing-related business, you needed to hire a group of writers. To create music, you needed to know how to sing and have money for recording sessions. You get where I’m going.
AI is changing all of this. With enough determination, you can build almost any software, write almost anything, compose music, create videos, design graphics, posters, and more. A project that needed five different people with different skill sets now needs only one or two.
I’ve therefore decided to become a builder. I am still a dreamer; just a dreamer who makes his dreams come true. And this is where I start. I’ve always wanted to get better at writing. I can feel my writing skills slipping whenever I try to write a new proposal or report. I have been putting it off for a long time. Today, that changes. This will be my space where I document all my ideas and my journey of building the different ideas I come up with. I’ll be writing my thoughts on things that come to mind during my many daydreaming sessions. I’ll be writing down the whispers that I hear in my head.
So the TL;DR of it all is this: I’ve started this blog to become a better writer and to document my thoughts as I move from a dreamer to a doer. And I called it Whispers because of all the voices in my head (the good kind :))
